This week’s activity was experimenting with manual exposure settings on a DSLR camera. Taking the pictures was honestly fairly intuitive it just requires almost constant troubleshooting, because if you change the angle even a little bit, the light reading may change. Balancing ISO, aperture and shutter speed was a process of pretty much looking at photos taken and adjusting them accordingly. Composition wise I had a bit more trouble simply because I’m not that into photography. But dramatic lighting and heavy contrast can make any mundane object interesting, so that’s what I relied on heavily. I found that using both a coloured light and a white light made for interesting light effects, but in some cases muddled the composition. The most difficulty I had was in importing my files, since my computer just ignored the existence of the SD card. Finally, editing was probably the easiest part, I just adjusted sliders until I thought the pictures looked good enough. Though it is a bit tricky to know when to stop.
