This week’s activity was to use the clips I recorded last week and edit a 60 second(ish) film. I know I was supposed to use the 10s rule but I kind of just intuitively chose what I liked best. I ended up following it pretty closely, but I don’t have a multiple of 10 for my amount of clips, so it’s not really an exact science. I don’t think I’m particularly gifted in cinematography or videography, but I like how it came out. I ended up making it sort of a horror film which is honestly what nicotine cravings feel like. I think I captured the anxious energy that I wanted to portray. I like playing with sound so that was the funnest part, it does seriously add a lot to the vibes. I purposely used repeating sounds to imply a feeling of time moving faster or slower at certain points, the dinging sound speeds up in the transition scenes that represent me going down the stairs and outside, to make it seem like that part feels faster and full of anticipation for when I get outside, where time feels slower because I can savour the moment. And I moved a bunch of the sounds from my recordings to the wrong scenes to sound a lot more disorienting. I kind of wish I made the video without showing myself at all I think I should have found alternative ways of portraying the scenes I’m in and it would seem more cohesive.
